Dutch NGO Founder Arrested on Child Sex Crime

April 23, 2010

On April 20, 2010, a 65-year-old Dutch NGO founder was arrested on charges of sexually abusing boys aged 8-15 years old.

Cornelius Marinus Joseph Chamuleau was arrested after APLE tipped off police about suspicions on him, abusing boys he supported to study at his NGO Modol Op’thom. Subsequently Preah Sihanouk Provincial court charged Chamuleau with indecent acts and ordered his provisional detention awaiting further proceeding by an investigating judge.

During the arrest, police confiscated a computer containing child pornography from his home as evidence. In addition, the three boys told the police that they touched the suspect’s penis and the suspect also touched their penises, in return. The police who conducted the operation also believed that the total number of victims could be even higher, as Chamuleau had more opportunities to commit further sexual abuses.
