American Man Takes Plea Bargain in Sex Abuse Case
The Cambodia Daily, May 17, 2010

An American man arrested in February last year for the alleged sexual abuse of our boys in Siem Reap province pleaded guilty in Los Angeles on Friday to feral child sex charges stemming from the abuse of two Cambodian boys, according to the newspaper LA Weekly.

Jack Louis Sporich, 75, who was taken into US custody in August, will likely received a 10-year prison term and pay $30,000 to the two victims when he is sentence in August, a newspaper blog reported Friday.

Sporich, an Arizona resident, was detained under a US government program targeting chld sex tourist in Cambodia. According to Seila Samleang, Country Director of the anti-pedophile organization Action Pour Les Enfants, Sporich was acquitted in absentia by Siem Reap Provincial Court in January as three of the alleged victims recanted and another did not testify.

His US conviction was therefore “a victory,” he said. “We believe that the sentence is serious.”
