Siem Reap Provincial Court heard the case of 39-year-old Canadian Jason GANT, accused of committing Indecent Acts against three underage boys in Siem Reap. The accused failed to appear in the court wherein the lawyers for both sides believed that he had already fled out of Cambodia shortly after he was released on bail last year.
Jason GANT was arrested on February 20, 2009 in a guesthouse in Siem Reap on suspicion of sexually abusing three underage boys, aged from 10-15 years old.
The defense lawyer for GANT claimed not to know of his client’s whereabouts , neither does the victims’ lawyer Ms. Peng Maneth, provided by anti-pedophile NGO Action Pour Les Enfants.
The day after, Provincial Judge Ith Sothea decided to acquit Jason GANT on the grounds of lack of evidence.
The victims’ lawyer Ms. Peng Maneth, provided by anti-pedophile NGO Action Pour Les Enfants said that the verdict has not given justice to her clients who are young boys living on the streets.
